India’s biggest National Children’s Gaming Tournament reached out to over 1.6 lakh kid gamers

Mumbai, 8th June 2009: Kwality Wall’s and Zapak, together, are trying to boost the culture of online gaming amongst children in India by conducting India’s biggest National Children’s gaming tournament ‘Paddle Pop Gaming League 2009’. The tournament was open to all children in the age group 6-12 yrs.

After the success of the 1st edition of Paddle Pop Gaming League last year with 35,000 participants, this year the tournament received an over-whelming response with over 1.6 lakh participants from across the country!

The highlight of the tournament held on 7th June 2009, was when the Kolkata Raiders were crowned as the winners of Paddle Pop Gaming League 2009. Harshit Purohit, Siddhant Agarwal, Prakhar Gupta, Akanksha Sharma and Srinjay Mahuri were the little champions of the tournament. A bunch of enthusiastic kids were overwhelmed at winning the tournament and were overjoyed at winning the most awaited prizes such as the Xbox consoles, PSPs and amazing gift vouchers from Giny & Jony. The icing on the cake was when the winners of the tournament would also get a chance to appear on Cartoon Network, a chance that every kid looks forward to.

The preliminary round of the tournament was played on 4 games based on the ‘Paddle Pop’ brand character and his new ‘Pyrata’ adventure on . Six city teams were created - Mumbai Chargers, Bangalore Rangers, Chennai Daredevils, Delhi Commanders, Hyderabad Warriors and Kolkata Raiders.

Mumbai Chargers saw participation of around 27000 gamers, Hyderabad Warriors - 29000 gamers, Delhi Commanders - 25,000, Bangalore Rangers - 26000, Kolkata Raiders- 28000 and Chennai Daredevils 27000 in the 2nd edition of the Paddle Pop Gaming League.

The top 100 gamers from each city fought it out in the City Finals in each city at the Zapak Gameplexes. Top 5 scorers from each of the 6 cities qualified for the ultimate battle in Mumbai for the National Finale of the Paddle Pop Gaming League! The finale was organised at Nirmal Lifestyle, Mulund, Mumbai. The event was conducted on a grand scale with special performances by the troupe of Danny & Kunjan of Nach Baliye Fame and Saloni Daini, the winner of Chhote Miyan, who had the audience in splits.

The winning team, Kolkata Raiders said, “We are thrilled to have won the Paddle Pop Gaming League 2009. And we love Shahrukh Khan and would like to dedicate our win to him and his team Kolkata Knight Riders.”
