"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse"
BIG Home Video releases 'The Godfather'
for the first time on DVD in India
Mumbai, June 14, 2009: BIG Home Video, in association with Paramount Home Entertainment Global brings to you for the first time on DVD in India - The Godfather. The 1972 crime thriller film based on the 1969 novel of the same name by Mario Puzo and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The film is greatly respected among international critics and the public and is routinely listed as one of the greatest films ever made.
Francis Ford Coppola’s epic masterpiece features Marlon Brando in his Oscar winning role as the patriarch of the Corleone family. Director Coppola paints a chilling portrait of the Sicilian clan's rise and near fall from power in America, masterfully balancing the story between the Corleone's family life and the ugly crime business in which they are engaged. It also stars screen stalwarts like Al Pacino, James Caan, Richard S. Castellano, Robert Duvall and Diane Keaton. The story spans ten years from 1945 to 1955 and chronicles the fictional Italian-American Corleone crime family. Two sequels followed The Godfather; The Godfather: Part II in 1974, and The Godfather: Part III in 1990.
The Godfather DVD priced at Rs. 499, is a special restored version and has bonus features like the original and provocative Director’s Commentary from the film. The Godfather received Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay, and has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
In addition, it is ranked as the second greatest film in American cinematic history, behind Citizen Kane on the AFI's 100 Years - 100 Movies (10th Anniversary Edition) list by the American Film Institute. The film itself is widely regarded as, "The Greatest Movie Ever Made".
"Sharp, entertaining, and convincing--discursive, but with a sense of structure and control that Coppola hasn't achieved since". Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader
A special marketing initiative has been undertaken to promote this movie at leading retail outlets. With every purchase of its DVD, each consumer will get a free collectible poster of Marlon Brando.
